150 Years of Urban History

Wellington Street

The Wellington Street North is the core of the downtown of Sherbrooke. For about a century and a half, it has been the main commercial street in the city. Its name, given in 1842, is honoring the Duke of Wellington, a famous army general and prime minister of England. The photograph was taken in 1900, corner of Frontenac Street.
