A picture is worth a thousand words

Andrée-Désilets Room

Opening on April 26, 2018, the Sherbrooke Faces exhibition allows the image itself to take centre stage. On display are some 100 photographs from our wide-ranging collection depicting hundreds of faces of Sherbrooke locals, young and old. Linger among the various themed groupings and admire the hats worn by the ladies and gentlemen of the day, wonder at the stern looks or seek out the loveliest smiles, contemplate beautiful outdoor moments, or simply allow yourself to be transported through the decades thanks to these carefully chosen photos. Oh, and by the way… You can also try our three digital puzzles to explore the Then and Now images selected especially for the occasion.

The Cégep de Sherbrooke is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. For the occasion, the SHS is taking a look back at the history of education in Sherbrooke and combing through its iconographic collection to uncover the best photographs to illustrate this story. Looking Back at Learning is made up of two components. The first offers an overview of Sherbrooke schools from the past 150 years, while the second, developed in collaboration with the Cégep de Sherbrooke, presents a retrospective of the college’s first fifty years. On display are some one hundred images offering a panoramic view of Sherbrooke’s education scene via its buildings, classrooms, and of special importance, through a portrayal of students and teachers in action. The exhibition is open from May 17 to October 28, 2018.
